ON THE OCCASION OF THE BIENNALE DI ARCHIETTURA AND OF SALONE NAUTICO
THE EVENT PROMOTED BY BBB
VISIONS OF WATERFRONTS
Venice, a place of liquid sociality and a fluid city by constitution, reveals itself again this year, on the occasion of the Architecture Biennial and the Salone Nautico, as a special setting to investigate the importance and value of the man-made coastal landscape. Waterfronts as active spaces of cities are identified as places of cultural and economicsocial hybridisation in which an interweaving of urban, architectural and territorial plans converge. They are places that are also entrusted with various symbolic/celebratory functions of local traditions and cultures. Waterfronts are increasingly becoming places of welcome, of interaction, evolved environments. Multiculturality as a peculiar element of these territories is the driving factor to be exploited in a perspective of enrichment, attraction and growth in order to configure in a sustainable way new ways of social and economic development. This edition will illustrate some cases involving the territories of Venice, Dubai, Duino, Trieste and Livorno, different realities all interested in the search for new models of regeneration and development.
