This is a re-design of the chair with volute pattern presented in 1936 at the VI Triennale in Milan by Gio Ponti himself, who was not only a promoter of 20th century industrial design but also a great admirer of craftsmanship. This chair is a superb example of the classical aspiration of Ponti’s style, where a few single elements create a unique combination: the volute pattern of the backrest is a tribute to decoration that becomes a structural element, while the cross below the seat throws the symmetry off balance, creating a tension between expected and unexpected; lastly, the triangular prism-shaped legs are flared, tapering towards the ground and at the top towards the backrest. A style steeped in elegance and uniqueness.
