Designed by Gio Ponti in 1940, this chair expresses the new modernist tensions of the age. In the ‘30s the author’s style is still deeply influenced by classicism, but Ponti 940, the last version of a model already presented in 1933, marks a leap forward: the flared legs and the rounded back and seat recall classic harmonies, contained by clean-cut essential lines that make no concessions to decoration. Distinguishing features are the rear groove on the structure, which gives the legs a unique contact with the ground, tapering upwards towards the backrest. Classic elegance and modern essentiality. Ponti 940 has been in the BBB Icon Chairs collection since 2015, celebrated as a timeless icon of Italian design, and comes with original revisited finishes.
