The historic furniture brand has assigned the role of art director to the well-known designer and architect, a return that marks a new beginning and the relaunch of the brand.
Two years after the start of relaunch project of the historic brand, a new phase has begun: BBB entrusts the designer and architect Marco Piva with the development of a shared vision: the home as a human place of election and design for everyone.
WHO IS MARCO PIVA
Marco Piva is a traveller as much as a designer: an innovator dedicated to the creation of unique design solutions characterised by stylistic freedom, functionality and emotion. The Marco Piva Studio, with major offices in Milan and Shanghai where about a hundred or so collaborators work, has completed iconic projects in Italy and abroad. These include Milan’s prestigious Excelsior Hotel Gallia, the Pantheon Iconic Hotel in Rome, the Radisson Collection Hotel Palazzo Nani in Venice, the Radisson Collection Palazzo Touring Club in Milan and the Port Palace in Montecarlo, not to mention multiple projects in Asia such as the Feng Tai Financial Center in Beijing, the Culture and Art Center Design of Yuhang and the Tonino Lamborghini tower complex in Chengdu, to open in autumn 2023. Also in the pipeline are private villas, residential complexes including Milan’s PRINCYPE and SIRE developments, numerous hotel projects and the renovation of historical buildings in Italy and beyond. Open to the world and with deeply rooted in the Italian character, Marco Piva is known for his ability to dialogue with other cultures and thus to realise works whose international character is integrated with the architect and designer’s Italian cultural roots.
The home is a ‘human place’ par excellence, and for BBB it becomes a highly evocative place in its every environment. The firm’s products are able to express its needs and tensions in a historical context, with spaces which harmonise with one other in a dynamic process of functional, perceptive and aesthetic transformation. BBB design takes shape through its elegant approach: both natural and synthetic materials are used to compose unique and essential geometries, embellished with highly refined details, giving life to timeless objects. For me it is a great pleasure to be able to take on this assignment, rediscovering the same values as when, as a young designer, I created the Plan Collection for BBB. Today these values are projected into the future with a vision that starts with great tradition and meets new and innovative materials, techniques and functions.
The BBB brand can be counted among the historic brands of the furniture world. Since its earliest beginnings more than 50 years ago, the firm has been synonymous with design and innovation, aiming to offer accessible quality and to combine ergonomics and research into materials with comfort.
The firm’s evolution has happened progressively, with the BBB brand being flanked by some of the some of the leading lights in design and architecture over the different eras: from Gio Ponti, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Giorgio Decursu and De Pas D’Urbino Lomazzi, via Renè Barba, Paolo Favaretto, Harri Koskinen, Marco Piva and Franco Poli, to Bruno Rainaldi, Serena Vinciguerra and many other emerging talents.
The official agreement reached recently to entrust the role of art director to Marco Piva executes the contemporary vision of the brand’s relaunch, without renouncing the values at the heart of the group.
For BBB, the agreement with Marco Piva marks a new milestone in the brand’s relaunch. This relaunch began a couple of years ago thanks to the invaluable contribution of Franco Poli, whom we thank for his excellent work and with whom we will continue a fruitful collaboration in the future. We are confident that with Marco Piva as art director, we will be able to give the BBB brand the strong and universally recognised identity of quality, innovation and originality that has always distinguished us.
